Hair ingrowth

Ingrown hairs are a condition in which a shaven or pulled out hair grows into skin, causing an inflammation or irritation. It is common in people who have hard hair, who shave intensely or perform waxing. Ingrown hairs are a medical problem, they can be very painful and can leave deep scars after healing.

Causes of ingrown hair

The structure of hair that is strong and sharp sets conditions for the twisted hair growth. When shaving, a sharp edge is created which then facilitates the hair passing through skin. The skin reacts to hair as a foreign body and develops an inflammatory process.

Consequences of ingrown hair

There is commonly a scar or a hyperpigmentation on the place where the process has developed.

Therapy of ingrown hair

There is no satisfying therapy for ingrown hair. Lotions with salicylic acid which have a mild abrasive effect on the skin, antibiotic lotions or creams are used. The only permanent solution for ingrown hair is permanent laser epilation.

Prevention of ingrown hair

Do not pull out your own hair, do not shave them in the direction of their growth and use depilatory creams.
